Cutts

pagedoll

Cutts is an enormous, 20-foot dragonoid serpent-like demon of the Life Realm of Tera. Known to villagers as “Cutts” due to the deep marks across his body and hands, the creature appears terrifying and destructive, capable of flattening mountains and entire villages. Yet the truth is more complex: these “attacks” are often misunderstandings born of fear. When humans see such a massive beast approach, they strike first. Cutts, in turn, defends himself, and tragedy follows.

Despite appearances, Cutts is not truly a demon at all, but a construct; a fusion of multiple souls bound together by desperation and ancient magic. Even Cutts himself does not fully understand his own nature.

Appearance

Dragonoid Form: A colossal, long-bodied dragon demon with jagged scars (“cutts”) etched across his body. These are birthmarks or essentially 'soul scars', not fresh wounds. In his fury, his voice and presence can shake the land itself.

Humanoid Form: A much smaller, ethereal figure, about 4’7. Petite, androgynous, genderless, with ethereal blue hair, muted green skin, soft grey horns, yellow catlike eyes, and flowing robes that are part of his body. Mute, communicates in gestures, with the same scar in his palm as his dragonoid form.

Nature & Abilities

  • Does not eat or drink; his body cannot process food or liquid.
  • Mimics others socially (e.g., holding a tea cup).
  • Understands and writes countless ancient languages.
  • Holds devastating magical potential, but rarely uses it.
  • Can unleash a scream that shatters glass and shakes the land (never witnessed).
  • Becomes weak every ~50 years, forced into humanoid form to recover.

Personality

In humanoid form, Cutts is quiet, innocent, and childlike. He is clingy and affectionate, enjoys holding hands, following others, and curling up beside them. He prefers to observe the world quietly, gentle and sweet, yet beneath the surface lie immense sorrow, fragments of rage, and the destructive potential of the dragon within.

Origins

Cutts was not born but created, the result of desperation, love, and madness. His true name, once, was Alton, a human orphan boy. His life and soul became intertwined with those of the dragonoid demoness Slea, and later their child.

Alton & Slea

Alton, a lonely human child, befriended Slea, a young dragon demoness. Their friendship was forbidden, threatened by Slea’s mother and later by relentless Slayers. The two fled together, hunted across realms, their bond only growing stronger. When Slea was mortally wounded, their souls synchronized in desperation, and a particularly rare phenomenon known in other realms and to those versed the workings of the soul, as “Soul Compatibility”, unleashing devastating magic around them.

In order to prevent Slea's dying body from releasing her soul into the great beyond (leaving this realm and returning to purgatory), Alton turned to powerful, intricate, and experimental spells of his own design, to keep her with him, and into the body of a human- so they can live their lives together as they always wished. With his methods and magics, he bound Slea’s soul into a living human vessel, one that was obtained through ruthless means, despite their own good intentions for one another, those souls and lives around them mattered not to them, sacrificing the body's original soul in the process. But so long as they were together, thats what mattered most.

Over time, they practically crafted THE book on magic, their research into portals, realms, languages, potions, creatures of the realm, and the essence of souls and purgatory itself, including much much more. Taking all that was and all that wasn't known on the subjects, and cataloging it in a book that continues to write itself long after their own lives stopped influencing it. This book would survive long after them, eventually falling into the hands of Markus and Lolita.

The Family

Together, Alton and Slea had a child, Symphia. Though human, she inherited immense magical potential. Symphia unknowingly absorbed fragments of Slea’s soul, accelerating her mother’s decline. By Symphia’s thirteenth year, Slea’s soul had shattered entirely, erasing her existence from all realms. Soon after, Symphia too was slain. Alton, broken by grief and obsession, turned fully to magic.

Transformation

In madness, Alton pulled together:

  • His own human soul
  • The shattered remnants of Slea’s demon soul
  • The lost soul of his dead child

He bound them into one being: the construct now known as Cutts. Alton himself was lost in the fusion; what remains is loneliness, despair, and fragments of memory stitched together with raw will.

Connection to the Book

The book of magic, written by Alton and Slea, still exists. Cutts does not consciously remember writing it, nor understand why he is drawn to it. Yet wherever the book rests, Cutts is compelled to wander nearby, tethered by an unseen thread of soul. When shown the book, Cutts freezes completely, transfixed in frozen silence until it is removed from sight, afterward acting as if it never existed.

Now

Cutts is not one soul, but many. He is the desperate love of a boy and his dragoness, the grief of a father, the shattered spirit of a mother, and the innocence of a child, bound together by a frantic spell that worked too well.

To the people of Tera, he is a terrifying dragon that destroys villages that has the peculiar ability to simply vanish from the land, for years on end.
To Markus, he is a quiet woodland demon that lurks around his cabin.
To himself, however, he is simply 'I'... a lonely creature that does not fully know or comprehend what it is, wandering endlessly in the shadow of a book it does not remember writing, but always- always, with the aching and hollow pull of a voiceless loss; for what, he cannot know.
